Practice Resurrection.
We talk a lot about resurrection in our community. It’s not just a topic that comes up around Easter, but a frame of reference for our whole lives as followers of Jesus. How is He at work in transforming us, making us new, bringing us back to life and how is He inviting us to practice and participate in resurrection in our community everyday.
Before Easter this year, I was out for a run, trying to wrap my head around the resurrection - what happened and why it matters. I was listening to a random playlist when I heard these words:
“I see signs and I see wonders. I see bursts of living color. Dead things coming back to life again. I believe there’s about to be another resurrection.”
Faces started appearing in my mind- stories, names, people that I may only see on Mondays, but stick with me every moment of every day. I imagined what it meant for these friends to experience resurrection. To not be defined by their lives on the streets - addiction, trauma, shame, abuse, but to live life in a community in such a way that they begin to experience true life. I imagined the scene from the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, when Aslan breathes on the statues and little by little you watch the cracks of stone appear and they return to life.
I imagined and prayed and before I knew it, I was sobbing. Loud, ugly crying to the point that I had to stop running and sit down. This is what we are about. This is why we exist. We pray for, watch for and participate in Resurrection. New life, restored relationships, peace and flourishing communities.
Almost every Monday on our campus, I get a glimpse of new life. Some times it’s small, an almost imperceptible crack, but if you have eyes to see, you may just see Resurrection.
